Seems like a lot of injuries for my team lately... Wang, Bradley, Reyes, Matsui. Granted, Reyes is already back, and Bradley and Matsui don't figure to miss much time. But still... bunch of guys a bit dinged up.

And Wang of course is out for the season, pretty much. No huge deal... I had kind of a lot of pitchers already.

(Good thing I dropped Brad Penny before he got hurt.)

As is typical my team has had its DL spots Maxed-Out all season. People like Byrnes, V-mart, and Hughes haven't exactly helped my team even when they were healthy. At one time this season my team has had 8 players on the DL at the same time. I guess its needless to say my bench spots have had injured people populating their ranks most of the time.
Its a tough year, true....

At least, I have been lucky in that one regard...the DL problem. My only real injury problems have come in the bullpen and with my OFs. I stockpiled good OFs in the draft, and happened to luck into some saves due to injuries to other closers -- so the luck has been on my side thus far **knock on wood** Now, if I could just put together some pitching and hitting at the same time, I might be able to make a run at the top spot. My squad started out pitching well, but not hitting. Now I have the opposite problem.

Oh well, best of luck guys.

So I traded Haren for Josh Hamilton. I've been trying to unload pitchers for a while -- at the moment, I have Haren, Lincecum, Duchscherer, Greinke, Shields, Meche, and Garza. I'm at 860 innings, so there's no way I'll need all these guys -- even if Meche and Garza are spot starters only. Does Hamilton fill a need? Only insofar as I need guys who are good at baseball.

One or two more starters might go as well in the coming weeks -- I need a base-stealing specialist and a closer.

I figured you might reconsider that one. Though Hamilton has been good to me, I've got to do something about my ERA and WHIP if I have any remote chance of catching you. And an OF made up of Holliday, Ichiro, & Soriano (once he comes back) plus either Hawpe, J.Guillen, Bruce, or Thames as my 4th isn't too shabby.

I still am looking to improve my IF, and may have some saves to spare depending on what happens with Soriano and Marte in the coming days.

Yikes... can't say I'm thrilled with this new deal. I can just about see Delgado for Thames -- that's a pretty even deal, I think. Delgado's more reliable, Thames has a remarkable HR rate this season, it's more or less a wash. Which leaves... Mahay, Slowey, and Iwamura for Kinsler. Those three guys are awfully close to replacement level there... I'd say it's three nickels for a dollar, but given how awesome Kinsler's been, it's more like three nickels for a twenty.

Congratulations to E-Town for pulling this off... Mutts, you care to explain your rationale here? Maybe there's something I'm missing...

You saw my league response. I can't buy completely that this one doesn't stink. Either that or it falls in to the "may be legit but is just so beyond the pale" column and so I had to say no.

This trade doesnt look good at all...if it hasn't passed already I think it's a good candidate for a veto...especially if the managers involved dont respond with their reasoning behind it.

To Bilderbergers: Suzuki and F. Rod in 1st

Oh, I'm willing to believe it's just a really bad decision on Mutts' part... look back at the draft. This is the guy who drafted Todd Helton in the fourth round. And we're basically running on a no-vetos rule...

That other trade you posted seems okay to me. Suzuki and Rodriguez are the two best players in it, but if the guy making the trade doesn't need saves or SBs, they're pretty much expendable. So he got three lesser but still very playable guys. (This was before Maine's injury, right?)

Yeah, could just be a bad decision....ive seen worse

The trade hibbzy posted looks decent. Willingham and Bruce have nice upside and Maine has had his moments. Not too bad at all from my perspective, in fact, being the type that hates closers I'd almost prefer the Willingham, Bruce, Maine side.

Maine's not a great guy in terms of ERA, but his strikeout ratio is very nice. And wasn't June 16 right about the time Willingham came back (after posting a .340 BA in April)? And shortly after Bruce got promoted to the majors, and everyone was making a big deal out of him? So those guys' stock was probably higher then than it is now.

PostSubject: In regards to my deals (both of them)   Elite South Atlantic 'A' League - Page 2 Icon_minitimeSat Aug 02, 2008 10:50 am

Do I really need to justify my approach to the original trade? It was a great deal for me. As Mansfield mentioned, I proposed both of the deals; they did not come from Mutts. I have always been the type to allow any trade so long as it is not a clear case of collusion on the parts of the managers involved. It has become clear to me that at least 4 of you do not share my opinion on the matter. I can't speak to Mutts rationale on his acceptance of the original deal, but the fact is -- he accepted it; so we were both happy with it. Did I feel that it was a great trade for me? You're damn right I did. Should it have been vetoed because it was such a good deal? Obviously, I don't think so.

Though I doubt it will actually have any impact, I will adjust my thinking when it comes to any future trades in this league to the mindset that most of you seem to share.

As for the second deal, I didn't want to part with Ichiro or Jeter because they have always been steady consistent contributors in the latter months of a season, and I fear that Delgado has peaked & Kinsler may still come back to earth in the coming months. It was a chance I needed to take in order to increase my power production. This deal I am not really all that happy with, but I don't want to settle for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in this league. I'm still trying to figure out how to catch Mansfield.

Yeah... seems like things are winding down. I feel pretty good about my chances of hanging on to the no. 1 spot, though it was a close thing a couple weeks ago. With less than 20 innings left, I've fired all my non-Lincecum starters. (Except Greinke, who I am pretty much retaining for sentimental reasons... though the way he pitched last time out, maybe I should try to bring him back for one more start.)

It's certainly been some season... guys like Bradley, Duchscherer and Greinke really helped me out, and successfully made up for the fact that I picked Brad Penny and Wang in the top 10 rounds. Not going to say goodbye yet -- if it turns out I don't pull this off, I'm going to seem like a jerk for guaranteeing victory with a week left to go. I'm not guaranteeing anything. But I feel pretty good about this.

Most of my top guys like V-Mart and Brynes were no shows and I am still fighting for 3rd. I hope I can pull the come from behind.
