Well... maybe in the future. At the moment, I'm kind of in my first season as a manager, so I don't really feel qualified to give advice or anything... thanks, though!

PostSubject: trades rant   Tue May 20, 2008 1:31 pm

It would be nice if people were more active traders (or active period). My trade offers seem to go unread or unanswered for extended periods of time, some are not even being read at all.
It would also be helpful if people could possibly trouble themselves to explain why a trade is rejected. Every owner values players differently, and without feedback your left guessing the reasons. If you wish to actually improve on your offer it can be difficult to gauge what the other owner wants otherwise.

I like to look at the needs of both teams and trade based on need stats. If the long-term value (the expected return for the entire remaining season) of the traded players is somewhat equal (obviously my perception of equal, unless challenged) based on need then I feel it is a good trade.

I know that some people don't have loads of free time but if your in an "Elite" league you would expect people to check their teams more than once a week. Writing a two sentence response to a trade or just speaking up occasionally isn't gonna suck away all of your quality time either.

I definintely agree with you Tim. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I don't expect the issues you mentioned to last beyond this year (our first). The are many other managers in the Elite system already that have your same mentality and commitment to the game...and you'll be competeing against them soon.

Next year (assuming youre top 3 in your league) you'll be playing against the best from this years Single-A as well as the 4th, 5th and 6th place finishers from Double-A. This should make for a much more active and competitive league and it will only get tougher year to year as the weak are weeded out and the best rise up.

For this first season we had to take people on their word regarding accomplishments and commitment level. Fortunately, those managers that we're bluffing about their abilities will be eliminated shortly. I hope you stick with it and stick to your game. We created this site for managers of your mentality.

Hi, Tim! Glad to see you on the board -- not so happy to see you challenging my ERA lead. Stop that. (If you promise not to overtake me in ERA, I promise not to overtake you in steals. Or... holds, probably.)

Hey Clyde, Back and Forth we go.
Seems like less Holds are to be had all around, too many blowouts, last minute lead changes and 9th inning (or later) walk-offs.

Just got sick of some under performers. No more Swisher for me.
Now lets see if V-mart can hit a freakin' Home Run.

Why not -- if Mauer can do it, anything's possible.

Hey guys...

I'm working my way into your company. I've gotta be able to do something with all these outfielders.

Seems like a lot of injuries for my team lately... Wang, Bradley, Reyes, Matsui. Granted, Reyes is already back, and Bradley and Matsui don't figure to miss much time. But still... bunch of guys a bit dinged up.

And Wang of course is out for the season, pretty much. No huge deal... I had kind of a lot of pitchers already.

(Good thing I dropped Brad Penny before he got hurt.)

As is typical my team has had its DL spots Maxed-Out all season. People like Byrnes, V-mart, and Hughes haven't exactly helped my team even when they were healthy. At one time this season my team has had 8 players on the DL at the same time. I guess its needless to say my bench spots have had injured people populating their ranks most of the time.
Its a tough year, true....

At least, I have been lucky in that one regard...the DL problem. My only real injury problems have come in the bullpen and with my OFs. I stockpiled good OFs in the draft, and happened to luck into some saves due to injuries to other closers -- so the luck has been on my side thus far **knock on wood** Now, if I could just put together some pitching and hitting at the same time, I might be able to make a run at the top spot. My squad started out pitching well, but not hitting. Now I have the opposite problem.

Oh well, best of luck guys.

So I traded Haren for Josh Hamilton. I've been trying to unload pitchers for a while -- at the moment, I have Haren, Lincecum, Duchscherer, Greinke, Shields, Meche, and Garza. I'm at 860 innings, so there's no way I'll need all these guys -- even if Meche and Garza are spot starters only. Does Hamilton fill a need? Only insofar as I need guys who are good at baseball.

One or two more starters might go as well in the coming weeks -- I need a base-stealing specialist and a closer.

I figured you might reconsider that one. Though Hamilton has been good to me, I've got to do something about my ERA and WHIP if I have any remote chance of catching you. And an OF made up of Holliday, Ichiro, & Soriano (once he comes back) plus either Hawpe, J.Guillen, Bruce, or Thames as my 4th isn't too shabby.

I still am looking to improve my IF, and may have some saves to spare depending on what happens with Soriano and Marte in the coming days.
